Bug 194

Summary: Incorrect permissions on /etc/sudoers after using visudo
Product: Sudo Reporter: Jeremy Vanderburg <jvanderb>
Component: VisudoAssignee: Todd C. Miller <Todd.Miller>
Status: RESOLVED INVALID
Severity: enhancement
Priority: normal
Version: 1.6.8
Hardware: Other
OS: Linux

Description Jeremy Vanderburg 2005-08-12 10:29:40 MDT
When using visudo to edit the /etc/sudoers file, the permissions are reset to
chmod 640, which causes sudo to complain that the mode of /etc/sudoers is 0640
and should be 0440. The mode of the file must then manually be changed back to
440. This is only a minor annoyance, but may be worth looking in to.

This sounds like you have a version of visudo that doesn't match your sudo binary. visudo already
does set the mode on sudoers to be non-writable.
