Bug 244

Summary: Sudo lacks i18n/translations
Product: Sudo Reporter: Martin Böhm <martin.bohm>
Component: SudoAssignee: Todd C. Miller <Todd.Miller>
Status: RESOLVED FIXED

OS: Linux

Description Martin Böhm 2007-05-01 17:12:11 MDT
The "sudo" application is a heavily used one, especially in the OSes/distributions that prefer it over "su". Many different users interact with it, including the non-English ones. I believe "sudo" should be made translatable as other console-based applications do - using gettext, probably. Is there an issue blocking the i18n?

There's no issue blocking internationalization, a gettext-enabled sudo is probably a good idea.

I am also interested in i18n of sudo. Has there been any progress in the year since the bug was opened?

Sudo 1.8.2 will include several NLS support. NLS translations for sudo are coordinated through the Translation Project, at http://translationproject.org/

If you would like to contribute a translation for sudo, please join a translation team at the Translation Project instead of contributing a po file directly. This will avoid duplicated work if there is already a translation in progress. If you would like to become a member of a translation team, please follow the instructions at http://translationproject.org/html/translators.html
Comment 5 Todd C. Miller 2011-08-24 11:02:12 MDT
Sudo 1.8.2 is out now and has been translated into Basque, Chinese (simplified), Danish, Finish, Polish, Russian and Ukranian.
