We have converted the server to a trusted system. If a user changes their
password to contain more than 8 characters, sudo does not recognise the
password when they come to use the command. Is there a limit imposed by sudo?

This is a bug that was fixed in sudo 1.6.3.  Please give sudo 1.6.3p5 a try.
