env_delete -= or = or ! does not work as intended :

Cannot remove any of the default values (LIBPATH, NLSPATH etc)

I just tested this and it works fine for me.  Note that some environment
variables may be removed by the dynamic loader before sudo even runs.  Perhaps
that's what you are seeing.
